Ibiza for Non-Partiers

The ‘White Island’ of Ibiza attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors during its high season, who flock to the island to enjoy the glorious summer weather and amazing club nights. While the party scene on the island is next to none, fear not if you aren’t the biggest night owl! Whether you’re on the island during the height of the summer, or there during low season, there’s a different, peaceful side to Ibiza that you can encounter if you choose to.

Exploring Ibiza the ‘Natural’ Way

Ibiza has a beautiful, rugged coastline, which lends itself perfectly to hiking and walking. Indeed, there are many companies who offer guided walking tours around the island during the winter months, when the climate is perfect for long, adventurous walks. If you feel like walking during the height of the summer, go for it! It just might be a little bit difficult due to the heat. But, if you have the stamina, why not walk up to the highest point on the island, Sa Talaia to marvel at the breathtaking views of the mystical rock Es Vedra? Or perhaps enjoy a more tranquil walk along the beautiful beach of Ses Salines, a natural wildlife park which is home to over 200 different species of birds andis a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site. You can choose to discover the island by yourself, or join one of the guided walks. See for some insider tips and an itinerary of their weekly walking tours.

Having Your Fill

Eating, drinking and lounging around is sometimes the best form of relaxation, especially if you’re in a Mediterranean country like Spain. If you are a dedicated foodie, or maybe just want a few nibbles, Ibiza has plenty to offer the discerning diner. Many bars and restaurants are open all year round, albeit some of them just during the weekends, and many offer great value deals for winter visitors (in the summer, be prepared for hiked up prices, but the quality is no less!). For a delightful beachside meal – head to the shores of Cala Jondal where you will find the eternally popular Yemanja restaurant, open all year round, and serving some of the best freshly caught fish to be found on the island. The gambas ajillo (garlic prawns) must be tasted to be believed. Another favourite is the organic cafe La Paloma. Hidden away in an orange grove in the sleepy village of San Lorenzo, the menu offers an unusual combination of Italian and Israeli influences, with many of the ingredients coming directly from their own gardens. We recommend the houmous cordero (spiced minced lamb with houmous) which is served with freshly baked foccacia bread, simply delicious.

Shop til you Drop

It’s a great time to indulge in some retail therapy here in Ibiza; especially in the New Year when many shops offer great rebajas (post Christmas sales). Ibiza Town has a great selection of stores that stay open all year round, and the tree-lined streets are bursting with great value deals to be discovered by an intrepid shopper. Or why not head to one of the markets which run all year round, check out Las Dalias in San Carlos every Saturday for some hippy style clothes and jewellery, or go even further north to the Cala Llenya second-hand market happening every Sunday. Both the Hippy Market in San Carlos and the second-hand market in Cala Llenya attract hundreds of people each and every weekend, who head there to grab a bargain, enjoy the live music, and people-watch.

Pamper Yourself

If you’re seeking some R&R and a little ‘me’ time, Ibiza is the perfect place to be spa-wise. Both Atzaro and Can Curreu hotels are open all year round, so head to their spas for some great deals on massages, beauty treatments and yoga classes. It’s a perfect time to spoil you in the beautiful surroundings of the Ibiza countryside. And why not, you are most definitely worth it!
